Instructional Music Services

Music materials in braille, large print and cassette formats are provided to interested Perkins Braille and Talking Book Library patrons through the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS).

NLS has a special centralized library for musicians with disabilities featuring a collection of more than 30,000 books, musical scores and instructional recordings. The NLS program acts as a supplement to commercial musical recordings which are readily available from stores and local public libraries.

With permission from composers and publishers, the NLS produces music scores in braille and large print formats. Magazines and books about music and musicians are available in large print, braille and recorded formats. Audio courses for beginning guitar, piano, organ, accordion, recorder, and voice have also been specifically developed for the NLS program.

Registered patrons interested in receiving music materials can contact the Library at 617- 972-7240, 1-800-852-3133 or e-mail Library@Perkins.org.
