The American Foundation for the Blind provides general information about living with vision loss, including independent living, communication, mobility and low-vision devices. Each link goes into further links related to the topic; for instance everyday skills has another link for handling money. One can also access this information in Spanish.

Preventing Eye Disease

The Lighthouse International website offers information and resources for people living with blindness or visual impairments. There are sections on how the eye works, anatomy of the eye, eye disorders, tips for confident living, and factsheets on prevention. The website contains a separate section for professionals. Contains a great deal of general information on all aspects of blindness including living with blindness, information for families, statistics and research.

Blind Babies Foundation

The "Resources for Parents and Professionals" section has information about the Babies Count National Registry. Fact sheets contain information on six common visual diagnoses, with specific information on eye specialists, vision assessments, effects of vision and behavior, common misconceptions, and teaching strategies.

This is primarily a commercial site featuring a small selection of books and products. It also has a collection of free full text articles and a sample newsletter.

Site owner Gregory Rosmaita's personal list of websites and resources for people who are blind or visually impaired, including email newsgroups. There's some emphasis on assistive technology, legal, and educational issues. Includes many international links.

Blindness Resource Center

The New York Institute for Special Education provides many links to resource sites related to blindness and visual impairments (quite a few are commercial). Categories include access to the Internet, braille, deaf-blindness, eye diseases, low vision resources, organizations, research, vendors and web home pages of the community of blind people. The site was updated in September 2006 and it has a textual interface for accessibility. It provides a good overview of different sites geared toward public use.
