Community Living Services

Perkins Community Living Services is a program that provides part-time individual support to adults who are blind, visually impaired, deafblind, or have multiple disabilities. Independent living specialists from Perkins visit community living clients in their own apartments in Watertown, Massachusetts. Each individual is encouraged to learn new skills, to participate in recreational activities, and to use local resources to attain maximum independence as a valued member of the community.

Individuals participating in the comunity living program are expected to be employed, attend a day program, or participate in volunteer work. Perkins independent living specialists work with clients' state agency rehabilitation counselors and others to provide a well-rounded level of support.

Monthly fees for the program help pay for staff costs and expenses; funding options include a combination of private funds and state agency contracts.
