Perkins Brailler & Products

Perkins International is committed to promoting braille literacy by providing access to a braille writer for every child in the world who needs it. The promotion of braille literacy and braille education is critical for the education of children who are blind.

Access to the Perkins Brailler®, the blind person's pen and paper, enables children to both read and write Braille. It also offers a chance for young adults to enter the workforce fully literate and independent. Braille literacy is the key to employment. Ninety percent of blind people who know Braille are emloyed. More than 70% without Braille skills are not.

Inadequate education for blind children in developing countries leaves the majority of the blind population illiterate and dependent on families who are already struggling. To contribute to greater independence for individuals who are blind, we provide Perkins Braillers at subsidized rates to many developing countries around the world.

Despite the lower cost, many schools and agencies for the blind lack the resources to provide braille writers to their students. You can help by making a gift to support the distribution of Perkins Braillers.

Perkins International is also committed to helping people who are blind live as independently as possible. Since assembling and repairing Perkins Braillers can be a source of livelihood for many people, the Perkins Brailler contributes in another way to the independence of people with disabilities in developing countries. We operate Perkins Brailler assembly plants in India, South Africa and the United States.
