Perkins School for the Blind is excited to be part of a new online, multimedia community for families of children with visual impairments.

FamilyConnect, at www.familyconnect.org, gives parents of visually impaired children a place to support each other, share stories and concerns, and find local resources.

Created by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) and the National Association for Parents of Children with Visual Impairments (NAPVI), this interactive website offers busy parents, grandparents, and other caretakers a place to connect with each other and find comprehensive resources and support 24 hours a day.

There are 93,600 school-aged children in the United States who are visually impaired and over half of them have additional disabilities. The families of these children need to know they are not alone and resources are available.

A FamilyConnect partner, Perkins offers many services for families including support groups through our on campus programs, diagnostic evaluations, community-based support, and outreach programs for students, just to name a few.

In addition to services for the visually impaired, Perkins also contributed to FamilyConnect's section on multiple disabilities, including a page focused on deafblindness.
